Children
and young people with ADHD need a different style of parenting.
That's why theLiverpool
ADHD Foundation
runs a special programme for parents and carers whose child
is diagnosed with ADHD.
This
programme begins by helping you to see the world through your
child or young person's eyes, and to build their self-esteem
and your own, which is fundamental to their future success
as an adult with ADHD.
We
look at many different ways of encouraging good behaviour,
communicating effectively, and helping them to gain
self-esteem, self-control and social skills
We
help your child to get organised, and to tackle negative
attention seeking, oppositional behaviour and conflict
We
help you become advocates for your child, build on your
new skills and seek new solutions.
Your
relationship with your child is the foundation for helping
him / her to work through their ADHD with positive outcomes.
We
believe that communication - being open to change and
sharing ideas with other parents and carers - is the best
approach. You, as parents and carers, with the right support,
are the best people to help your children.
Sessions
are designed so that you build on information and ideas
from previous weeks, so regular attendance ensures you
will get the most out of this programme.
There
is no 'quick fix' in tackling ADHD. It is a journey
you go on together.
