School
can and should be a fantastic experience for
your child.
It
can also be a worrying and stressful one for both child and parent
when managing ADHD. Therefore, it is important to understand what
is needed to support your child in accessing their education.
Understanding
ADHD is paramount in the management of the condition in school
so learning all you can about ADHD and understanding the legalities
of the education system (including exclusions) and working together
with the school, is essential in keeping your child safe, happy
and continuing their learning in the school of your choice.
Children
and young people with ADHD can find the school environment really
difficult, so helping the school to understand your child’s
needs will ensure he / she is happy and progressing with their
education.
There
will be times when you will face difficulties with your child’s
school, you may find your child is being excluded and are not
sure why or how the process of exclusion affects your child’s
education.
Liverpool
ADHD Foundation
aims to help you, your child
and the school to find solutions to the difficulties you face
and move the process forward.
We
provide an Information, Advice &
Guidance Service where we can help you identify your
needs, and see if there is a need to signpost you to the appropriate
service or agency who will be best placed to advice you on you
and your child’s position.
Liverpool
ADHD Foundation
works closely with other organizations to support children and
young people to access their education.
We
offer, as part of our accredited NOCN training programme, a unit
on Education Link which will empower you as a parent to understand
the terminology within the education system and will give you
better skills and more confidence when attending meetings with
your child and school.
